ICE SWIMMER I MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE I SPEAKER
Amber Fillary is 4 time Guiness world record holder including the longest under ice swim with breath held in the female category (no fins, no diving suit), swimming a total distance of 295 feet under 34 cm of thick ice at sub-zero temperatures, all while overcoming lifelong battles with addictions, depression and Bipolar disorder.
Since the age of fifteen, Amber has struggled with mental health. Alcohol and medication abuse secured most of her early twenties in rehab, with multiple attempts to take her own life. She later managed a few sober years by seeking support and after a nearly fatal car accident while driving under the influence, she then saw through 13 years of sobriety. After losing her late husband to alcoholism, her travels abroad lead her to discover the sport of free-diving with which she immediately fell in love.
With the encouragement of her amazing support team, Amber mastered her addictions and on 29th February 2020, and on the 3rd attempt, in Oslo Norway, she broke the Guinness World Record: 6 MINUTES UNDERWATER; 229 FEET TOTAL DISTANCE; 34 CM OF THICK ICE. In addition to that on 5 March 2022 she broke the male and female world record swimming under the ice in a bikini on one breath, and on 2&3 March 2024 she claimed the Monofin 110m and No-fins 105m Records as well.
Amid life challenges on life’s terms, a documentary shared, a book in the wings, Amber carries her story forth, with spirits on a daily journey and continues to show up for herself one swim at a time.
Amber is currently training for 2028 when she will once more attempt to break records, and break free.
