Jasmine Jagger

JAZZ (JASMINE JAGGER) / multi-medium expressionistic artist, born 1985, Johannesburg, South Africa, lives and works in Cape Town, South Africa.
In learning how to let go of barriers, Jasmine is able to tap into a wealth of personal imagery motivated by thoughts and experiences, finding influence in the intricacies of her daily life. Her distinctive and personal style is reflective in her use of contrasting colours and bold compositions. Imagery that pays homage to the conscious and subconscious thought of the human mind.
As a child, she received prizes and awards for her innate talent. With no formal art education, Jasmine is a self taught Painter and has for a large part of her life collected and compounded experience and inspiration from the likes of Pablo Picasso, Jean-Michel Basquiat, George Baselitz, A.R Penk, Yayoi Kusama and George Condo.
She began her journey into the art world when she was scouted and commissioned for her ceramic work in 2015 By Artist and Former owner of Zulu Lulu art gallery, Trayci Tompkins. Jasmine began her painting career in late 2019 and by August 2020 was commissioned by Yael Geffen CEO of Lew Geffen Sotheby’s International Real estate for their Women’s month campaign.
Jasmine is compelled to create art using striking colours and loud imagery for the sake of losing herself in an intense desire for comfort and solace in what she can only describe as an “organic, cathartic experience’’

Q&A

1. What’s your biggest achievement / Something you’re proud of yourself for?

I would say my biggest achievement/achievements have come in waves. There is not one single thing, but many things that have accumulated and built on to what and where I am now. Hard work, and never ever taking my eye off the prize.”

2. What’s your biggest fear / something that holds you back?

For the longest time (35 years) I was crippled by the fear of failure, I wouldn’t be able to articulate what “that” even looked like, but it kept me from pursuing my passion for much longer than it should have. Overcoming that fear happened over night, it was a culmination of, a decision I had made and a book I had stumbled across (I guess the universe had some plans for me) “The war of art” – Steven Pressfeild that, after reading it I just decided, If I get it wrong, I get it wrong. So what? You win or you learn.”

3. What’s your biggest contribution / Something you like to share?

I’m not sure what my biggest contribution would be, because I feel like I could always be doing better. But I love sharing wisdom, either through trial and error or the wisdom that others have shared with me. Just to be better, do better, feel better. I don’t like sharing my fries tho, I draw the line at french fries.

4. Fun Facts:

Fun fact about me, when I was a kid I used to buy kittens and keep them hidden in the bathroom of the house, I’d tell my mom that I found them in the street and that I couldn’t bare to leave them out there so I always ended up keeping them. I still as an adult do this. But to my husband.

Thank you for being you!
