Jane Nshuti

Plant based food educator

Jane Nshuti is a plant-based African food educator and Tamu by Jane founder. She has a desire to nourish stomachs, souls and minds. Her recipes and food philosophies intertwine to deliver knowledge about food security, community and a passion for African foodways. Nshuti is a remarkable woman who has overcome great adversity to make a positive impact by helping families eat healthier meals while embracing their African heritage.

As part of her work she runs African inspired monthly cooking classes, so far she has conducted 7 cooking classes in 2021, she also hosts African Plant-based feasts twice a month and uses the remaining of her time taking on speaking engagements in raising awareness in line of Plant based African foods.

We are based at makers landing in waterfront. You can join us for monthly cooking classes and bimonthly African plant based feasts.

1. What’s your biggest achievement / Something you’re proud of yourself for?

“When I finally overcame my fears and started my plant based food journey of promoting African food dispite the fact that it was not trending.
And to have been able to do that allows others the opportunity to experience such culture through food.”

2. What’s your biggest fear / something that holds you back?

“Not being able to show people what Africa has to offer in terms of food culture, and feeling like I’m competing with other cuisines.”

3. What’s your biggest contribution / Something you like to share?

“My desire is to reintroduce African food to the world in the way our forefathers enjoyed them, in a plant based form.
I believe that I’m starting an amazing revolution of African plant based food.”

4. Fun Facts:

“When I step into the kitchen everything else around me becomes quiet, I can spend a whole day into the kitchen and that would be an amazing time well spent.”
