Monita Austin is a small business owner and registered beauty therapist based in Cape Town.
At 15 years old, Sunday skincare routine became a bonding experience with her mother. Her mom’s dedication to caring for her skin instilled in Monita the importance of maintaining a proper skincare regimen from a young age. Unfortunately, it became increasingly apparent that Mom’s efforts were in vain, and the repeated disappointments from skincare products and procedures began to erode her self-esteem and she would then end up hiding behind makeup. This was fuel for Monita’s life path and inspiration.
After completing her skin care education, Monita started as a Sales Rep with flexible work hours allowing her to start treatments part-time from her spare room. With genuine results and quick growing supportive demand, fast forward to today, Elegant Skin & Aesthetics is a successful private home based independent skin care clinic in Table View.
Losing her mom in 2020, Monita now continues to honor her mom in gratitude & spirit by sharing her deeply rooted passion in helping individuals overcome their skin-related struggles, with the ultimate goal to help clients regain their confidence as they witness the remarkable results of the treatments and skincare products provided.

1. What’s your biggest achievement / Something you’re proud of yourself for?
“My Business. At my age I am very grateful to be able to run my own business and just grow from here.”
2. What’s your biggest fear / something that holds you back?
“Finances. But also losing my mom not too long ago, moving to a new city to start a new life, and not being entirely certain what will be, can make me feel unsure. So I guess that’s fear? But everyone has fear and that’s ok. So sometimes the confidence to stand alone, to risk the unknown and then I remember how much love and fortune I’ve had in my abilities and opportunities, and I use that energy to walk through those internal barriers.”
3. What’s your biggest contribution / Something you like to share?
“I feel that I give my clients the chance to feel beautiful and confident and loved. Sometimes how we feel on the inside translates to how we look on the outside, and other times, how we look on the outside helps us to feel better on the inside. Giving ourselves time and care, personal love, self love in the way of beauty therapies, skin treatments and care routines can be hugely uplifting for our inner selves, and by feeling better in our inner selves we can offer a better version of ourself to those around us. My work is extremely personal and my passion is real, I truly care about my clients and can only hope that I can provide a small value piece to their lives.”
