CO-FOUNDER of “RESCUE IS LIFE ANIMAL” ORGANISATION
Michelle Barnard, born and raised in Cape Town, is Co-founder of the locally based domestic animal rescue organisation “Rescue is Life” (RIL), as well as single mother to her 16 year old daughter. Michelle has worked with animals since the age of 24 in various sectors and has a come to learn it’s her life’s purpose to change the lives of animals for the better, and families too.
Michelle’s outreach efforts through her team at Rescue is Life shows her deep commitment to change and education. And the organisation itself, encompassing a system of rescue to foster volunteer network to adoption, touches hundreds of individuals & communities each year – setting a poignant example in “if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life.”

1. What’s your biggest achievement / Something you’re proud of yourself for?
“ My biggest achievement would be my daughter’s growth into a beautiful young lady with a love for all living beings and morals to be proud of as well as Rescue is Life, which is my other baby. Nurturing both has been mu biggest achievement and blessing.”
2. What’s your biggest fear / something that holds you back?
“I think along with majority of the population, financial constraints are always a challenge. They hold us all back but the continuous struggle to succeed brings many lessons and builds a strong character.”
3. What’s your biggest contribution / Something you like to share?
“I like to share anything I have really. I think knowledge in the animals sector is something I’ve gained over many years in the field and use this to teach members of the public and communities about sterilisation and responsible pet ownership.”
4. Fun Facts:
“I love the outdoors, Spring and Summer are my favourite seasons. I love camping and swimming and from time to time I enjoy going out and dancing. My family is very important to me, and, I can shake my eyeballs 🙂 “
